…and it had a pink ribbon here,

And another one here,

On the shoulder!

And the ruffle went from right here,

To ‘round over here.

Two layers!

And the petticoats made it stick out

Like a tent, like this,

Mama made the lace herself,

And sewed it in waves

All ‘round the collar.

It was my specialist dress,

My Shabbat dress.

When they came for us,

Mama put me in it,

When those soldiers lifted

Their guns but I wasn’t

Even a littlest bit scared

Because I knew even bad Nazis

Would never, ever

Ruin such a pretty dress

With bullet holes.
